In verse thirteen of Psalm 116 David said I will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord. So David is saying, for all your benefits I will take it from you. He was not concern about rendering service to the Lord for His benefits instead, David was taking it. To others, it is better to give than it is to receive but when it comes to God it is better to receive than it is to give.
We have been so focus on working for the Lord that we have forgotten to just sit back and receive from Him. Well you might say that is being lazy but really it is not because Jesus has already done all of the work for us. How you like to go to heaven and see all the things that the Lord has in store for you that you never received because you were too busy working for Him to ask Him for what He has for you. You would not be pleased to find that out so why not get those things now while you are here on earth.
I frequently pray this prayer; Lord let your will be done for me today on earth as it is in heaven. When I pray that prayer, I am opening up myself to receive from Him. God loves to give to us and we cannot ask for more than He can supply so take from Him; it is His delight.
David knew that God loves to give and that is why he said I will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord. Salvation gives to us everything that we need that we do not have. We call upon the name of the Lord for what we need then we thank Him for giving it to us.
Some might think that they do not deserve to receive from the Lord and they are absolutely right; none of us are worthy to receive from Him but He loves us and He is willing to do for us in spite of our short comings. He is aware that we do not deserve anything from Him because we all have sinned and come short of His glory but that is why He sent His Son to be sin in our place and by doing that, He made a way for us to receive from Him.
When we take from Him that indicates to Him that we trust Him and acknowledge Him and that we have stopped trying to work things out for ourselves because when we are trying to do for ourselves He must back away and let us. It is His will for us that we will allow Him to work for us and for us to take from Him. He is our heavenly Father; heaven and earth belongs to Him so His supply is matchless therefore, we can never ask for too much. He has chosen our inheritance for us that He wants us to receive while we are here on earth but we must take it. I do not believe that we can work to earn our inheritance, yes we might be blessed but it is pale in comparison to the inheritance.
I remember thinking not long ago how people would work hard all their life to save money and there is nothing wrong with saving but God has an inheritance for us that He wants to give to us. Proverbs 10:22 read the blessing of the Lord makes one rich and He adds no sorrow with it. People who work hard to save money rarely enjoy their life because they are focus on their labor and how much they can save but God has a better plan for us; He has an inheritance for us and all we need to do is to take it from Him.
You might not need money, you might need something else from Him but the process is still the same; take it. God is not trying to take from us; He is trying to get things to us but a closed fist cannot receive. Therefore, we need to open ourselves up to the Lord and take from Him what He is trying to give us because He loves us.
